Cal Ripken, Junior is certainly one of the most legendary baseball players. Born August 24, 1960 in the town of Havre De Grace, Maryland, Cal Ripken was raised in the nearby town of Aberdeen. Having accomplished more than 400 home runs and 3000 hits, he was one of only 7 baseball players in history to have that amazing triumph. While playing the California Angels on September 6, 1995, he was able to break the record for playing the most games in a row. The record for consecutive games was previously held by Lou Gehring for 56 years. By the end of his streak, he played 2,632 games consecutively. Covering 16 seasons, his streak began on May 30, 1982 and ended September 20, 1998.

Ripken was a hardworking player and he was voted 19 times as the MLB All-Star player. Because he was able to play in spite of his injuries, he is also known as baseball’s Iron Man. At 6′ 4″, he was believed to be one of the best shortstops in baseball.
